Hi all

It has been very interesting reading configurations and performance comparisons between the mac mini and other macs! I was wondering how does the 12'' ibook stack up to the mini since they are both with thesame specs!

If they stack up thesame in performance the ibook would come ahead in the mobility, keyboard and screen! Of course there is the price difference, but not that much when you consider the take anywhere option and the built in airport card!

I also read somewhere that the mac mini 1.42ghz has a 7200rpm drive! Is that true?

The Mac Mini has a 167MHz FSB, compared with the iBooks, which is 133MHz, the graphics is the same, but as iSlayer said, the HDD is slower.

There are some differences.
System bus on miniMe is 167MHz vs. 133Mhz on iBook 12".
Upgrade to 80GB drive is $80 for mini vs. $242 on iBook 12". WTF?! It's the same drive!
Faster, cheaper RAM on mini.
Superdrive not available on iBook 12".
$800 Mac mini + $50 keyboard + $30 mouse + $300 15"LCD + $120 APX = $1300

Basically, the Mac mini has superior specs to the iBook and is cheaper to buy and upgrade. The iBook is more portable.

The iBooks come with 4200RPM drives as well.

you can salaray package the iBook, but not the Mac mini
(this means about a 20% saving for moi, on my meager wage)

It really depends if you want the portability or not. If not, the Mac mini should be a little faster in some cases with the 167 Mhz Bus.

However, double what you pay, and you get a iBook with a screen, keyboard, and trackpad. You can use it as a desktop machine buy hocking it up to a screen.

You can't expand the RAM on the mini past 1 gigabyte too. And it only has the one memory expansion slot.
