Working on my Beige G3 DT with the 7300 on ethernet crossover connection yesterday, when suddenly noticed a black screen on the 7300. Had a couple of attempts to restart <Command->Opt->Power> without success.
Opened the box and reset the Cuda switch. No success.
Deided to remove and check the battery < Logic Board Reset > only to find dark liquid leaking from the positive battery terminal. This is a Lithium 3.6v 1/2 AA common to many models.
My point being, that dead batteries are one thing, but leaking batteries are entirely another story.
Please take a look from time to time, if you have one of these batteries and try to remember to toss them before their useby. Usually about 5 years, but I would consider a changeover every 3.
If the leak occurs, it is necessary to wash the acid away with water. A qtip is best and then clean the contact thoroughly with Shellite <also applied with a qtip > leave it to air dry or use moisture dispersal very carefully. This will clean up the battery holder terminal and top face of the motherboard and now for the ugly question...
if this remedy fails, it will be necessary to take a look at the underside of the board. Has anyone any suggestions, as to how to free it from the case? My overview is that it will not be easy and I am hoping I will not have to do it. Sure will appreciate any comments if someone has done so.
BTW, I am informed that a failing capacitor in the power supply can send the battery to oblivion as described above, but a nasty mess inside the power supply box and obvious smell eminates from said supply. Not so, in my case.
I pulled a battery from an older machine but found it to be in a reduced power state. Bought a new battery ex USA via eBay for AUD$9.00 incl postage and will have it by next week, so will update my next step. Lots of time for the board to dry out.

Thanks for the tip kaisersozay - did you get your 7300 going again with a good PRAM battery installed?

Happened to me a while back as well - my LC475 had a dead PRAM battery, had to wipe off the acid using Isopropyl Alcohol wipes and a scalpel blade. I touched some of the acid, and my fingers went numb for one hour! That's got to be good

FYI Battery World, Dick Smith and Jaycar sell these batteries for under $10.
