Along with each new product Apple release comes a slew of help articles in their knowledge base. No different with the Mac mini are specific articles relating to just how you should use the little thing.

No warnings not to eat this one, however. I suppose Apple figure anyone willing to try eating a Mac mini is too stupid to sue them for the inevitable aluminium/plastic/other toxic stuff poisoning anyway.

Included are the usual description of ports on the mini, and basic troubleshooting if it displays no video or just won't turn on. You can see which displays are compatible, and an article that says little more than use an Apple keyboard & mouse. If you can't figure out which windows keys mean what on a non-Apple keyboard, you can find that too.

Full Memory specs for a Mac mini are included, as well as how to position a Mac mini. Don't stack them btw - the antennae for bluetooth and wireless are in the top. It looks like the DVI-I to VGA adaptor is pretty small. Who'd have guessed you should Turn off your mini to clean it with a damp cloth!. The LED is white as with other recent macs, and either headphones or speakers can use the 3.5mm audio out jack. Resetting the PMU is as simple as plugging the power lead in with the power button held down, and No, the Apple logo does not light up.

I been watching the service manual area on the apple website for the service manuals to come available. At this stage they haven't appeared. But it usually takes sometime, and I guess they won't show up until after they have started shipping as a guess.

Atleast they have populated some of the knowledge base for the public already.

Iodine, could you please post up the PDF on Appletalk when it becomes available - I'm sure a lot of users would be very interested on learning about upgrades/disassembly with the Mini Mac.

its actually breaking our service contract for us to share the manuals with the public. but i am sure if you wanted to see it for 'educational' purposes ie your writing an article on its great engineering etc etc then we might be happy to 'show' you

only for the articles sake of course

I just found this article, while it has no basis for fact, it has some insight.

http://www.computerworld.com/hardwaretopic...1,98956,00.html

Of interest:

THE RAM. The most widely criticized aspect of the Mac mini is its meager base 256MB of RAM. However, the RAM slot on the Mac mini seems to be pretty accessible; if it turns out to be fairly easy to crack a Mac mini open, it seems that more RAM would be the easiest thing to install. Keep in mind there's only a single RAM slot, so if you want to upgrade your RAM after buying a Mac mini, you'll need to yank the pre-installed module first.

Here's a bit I missed from the first read through of one of the articles.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300582

regarding the ports on the rear of a Mac mini:

Modem Port (on some models)

But a quick peek around the education & online stores in USA and oz didn't show non-modemed minis. The Macnews.de gallery does show that the modem is an extra, not included on the motherboard itself, though.

Funny they say do not stack then, considering the animated image on this page ;-)

Thanks for the offer, but I have my own access to the manuals area
