White plastic or Silver metal for the mythical small mac pro?
Whilst I was daydreaming about the possibility of Apple releasing a mac pro mini, mac workstation, macwork or whatever they wish to call it with Conroe desktop cpu's instead of Xeon's for a headless iMac pricing structure, I began the ponder an important question:
IF Apple was to release a smaller pro machine with a removable video card, Conroe desktop cpu's and multiple hard drives, would it be a Silver metal machine like the mbp and mac pro, or would it be in the consumer white plastic like the imac and macbook?
Nearly every mockup I've seen has had the machine in white plastic, but surely if it's intended to be a cheaper pro it would still be in pro form factor and styling?
What are your thoughts?

probably in the mac pro type of tower. It wouldn't really sit on a desk, so need to look as cool as an iMac or Mac Mini!

Since it's mythical.... why not clear plastic with an OLED screen inside so you can make it look like it's metal if you really want... all set via a system pref pane.

I like the idea of OLED under clear plastic.

Does that make it more Mac™ than an iMac™ etc?
I like the name Disko, but what will it look like?

I proposed they call the 'missing' machine "Mac" a couple of weeks ago when this topic first popped up.
IF Apple build it, I imagine it would be styled after the Mac Pro ... it definitely wouldn't be boring iWhite. Rounded case, no perforated-grill 'Pro' panelling, probably made from a similar aluminium to the Pro.

I'd like to see the Macintosh name come back after all these years of Mac variations.
As people have said, it could be the one between iMac and Mac Pro. A happy middle ground where you want the extra grunt, but not 8 cores of it.

Oh and colours for the plastic range aswell. Apple could go hippie colours again. But that could be bad. Who remembers the hippy (emac?)

Silver, it'd be the 12" Powerbook of Mac Pros. Not as featured as it's big metal brothers, but lording it over the plastic kiddies.
