Does this sound like a faulty HDD to you?

I think i may have posted a while ago about a problem i experienced in my iMac.

At the time, I was trying to install Bootcamp 1.2 and partition my drive. Each time I tried, I got an error saying there was a problem with the drive and to choose another partition.

I managed to fix that by defragmenting the drive - twice. I then managed to partition it and install boot camp, etc so forth and now....

I tried to install parallels the other day. I wanted to install an XP partition to run some coherence programs within osX. I installed the software and configured it to have a 6Gb partition for parallels XP. I started to install Windows, but when it got to the "select partition" screen, and i chose the partition...it failed on formatting it?!

does this seem like it could be related to the last problem with boot camp? i haven't had the time yet to run a surface scan but will do so overnight tonight if i can. this is a 2 month old iMac so if possible (if it's a hdd fault) i'd like to get it sorted quickly - before I get any more stuff on there. Sigh, any thoughts mactalkers?

I recall having that problem once in Parallels, with the new updated version they have the auto install, so you just set a size for the hard drive and it does the rest. Maybe a though to give that a try. Not familiar with bootcamp sorry, but does sound a little weird.

yep i tried the auto install AND the manual install, both give problems at the point where they format the partition.
