G3 imac no start up

I have just been given an old G3 imac, which i thought would be great for the kids.
The only thing is that it won't start up. When yo push the start button it lights up and then nothing. Just a blank screen. Any idea's. Don't want to spend any money. Flat battery's be a good place to start?

When you say blank screen, are you saying a screen like it's off, or a grey nothing screen?

Can you boot up on an OS X CD (or if it has a dvd drive - DVD) - that's a good place to start.

power supply issue perhaps? Not sure how you can positively test that.

If the power light comes on and you can hear the hd try to spin, but get no display you're probably up for a logic board replacement- but you can try putting in a known working pram battery and reset the cuda, remove any extra ram and re-try. Sometimes the pram batteries cause anomolies- although more likely that it's a logic board issue.

Does it make any "ffzzzzt" sound when you power it on? Does the power light stay on or flick off immediately?
