Mac 512k Floppy Issues Help Please

Hello,
As maybe some of you know that i have bought a 128k which has been upgraded to a fat mac (512k) and last night i inserted a really dodgy floppy into it's internal drive now everytime i insert a floppy a little message comes up "Would you like to format this floppy as single or double sided).
What should really be coming up is the disk icon on the desktop.
If i insert a disk it doens't stuff it up because it can still be read by the external drive (which is also has a problem of not ejecting)
What should i do?

1. try and fix the drive? if so how
2. replace the drive?

You've probably buggered the head alignment, time for a new drive.

I'm a bit unsure what you mean; a floppy is stuck in the internal drive still? Or whatever disk is inserted in the internal drive it now thinks is unformatted (but the external is fine).

Now, is it a 512K (with 400K drive) or 512Ke (the model that can take an 800K drive)?

Could be the internal is still 400K. Or, if it's anything like my original 128K, the eject mechanism fails and you need to use a credit card/knife to lift up the disk to remove it (400K drives fail a lot). On the the 400K drive, there is a metal tab to the right side of the drive; lift this up and see if it stops detecting disks.

Ok the internal is 800k ejects fine no problem but i stuff that one up.
I currently have the mac open and i can clearly see that it indeed it was a mac 128k it was just upgraded.
Now my external 400k drive is whats not ejecting but reads everything fine.

Is their alot of work involved in replacing the drive on this mac?
I have an external 800k Floppy drive what if i take the drive out of that and install it on this thing but it's not an apple official one?
want me to post a pic?

I'm pretty sure external floppy drives aren't the same, ie. you won't be able to butcher it open and make it into an internal model.

Your best bet would be to look out for a compact Mac with an 800K drive - anything from a 512ke/Plus/SE will work. It's pretty easy to replace, but you'll need to undo the metal internal chassis and analogue board to gain access to the drive.

I'd still try to vaccum out any dust from the dead 800K drive, and try one of those floppy "head cleaners" that used to be around. Same goes for checking for any loose parts etc. inside there.
