Looks very stylish for switchers-it's good that has a G4 (a G5 wouldn't fit due to the size of the enclosure).

I am trying to see if a service guide has been released for it yet on the apple service manuals area for resellers. I will chase this up today and confirm if the site has one available yet. I suspect not, but worth a look.
I want to see more internals.
As for price of notebook drives. They have fallen. You can buy 60gb 4200rpm drives for like $171 or so. But when you price a few key parts and software, it makes the machine look extremely good value.
It's an extremely good machine. Has everything one could need for a basic first time user. Has ethernet, modem connection etc. I could see myself recommending this to some people.
I must say it looks nice when partnered with a nice big LCD. Think an Apple LCD purchase might be on the cards in the next few years.

I can see one of these babies becoming a lounge room multimedia centre very quickly.
With composite video out for your TV and the fact that it doesnt look much bigger than a regular DVD player, all you need to add is some blue tooth peripherals to replace the conventional remote and your away.

to get an idea of the value lets look at the prices for some of the components.
1.25ghz cpu-$300+ for an upgrade
256 ram-$50
40gb laptop drive-$130
slot load combo-$150
You have $630 there
add in the motherboard or logic board, graphics, expansion ports and you have a cheap system

I wonder if I could plug one of these into my iBook and use it kind of like an external hard drive?

Slightly off topic, but are there any OSX-compatible USB2.0 HDTV tuners on the market? How cool would it be to pair one up with a Mac Mini? Ultimate HTPC . . . I mean, HTMac!!!

Instantly I see these useful for:
* Home Theatre PCs. DVD/DivX/emulators/games on the big screen.
* Mobile projector display unit. And cheaper than a laptop too.
* Cluster nodes: combine 10 of these with the Apple Development stuff and distcc, and you've got yourself a pretty tight little compile-cluster for developers that will rip through code nice and quick. Likewise, combine a dozen of these with Xgrid and you've go one hell of a cheap mini-cluster, render farm, or whatever it is you need.
Excellent work Apple for releasing "the Cube 2.0", but this time making it affordable!

In hindsight, Apple's price shift on displays, keyboard and mice was very timely.

Nice. I'm pretty sure this will get me to buy a Mac for the first, given that cost has been the thing that has always held me back.
Though (as with other recent Apple releases) I ask, why use THAT video chip? Surely these days a ATI 9600 chip wouldn't add much more to the cost than the 9200.
