I found a haul of 5 of these keyboards at work in the closet. I'm wondering if anyone has done any mods/hacks to them as to making them with a USB connector to use on current Macs?

I'd love to use them, I remember using them in high school and wanting to plug it into my Wintel box :P

Thumbs up

Hi there decryption,

Have you got a picture of one of these - i'm not 100% sure I'm thinking of the right ones..

I know someone in Brisbane who has done things with changing cable connections over to USB before, but not sure if this is possible with these.. I can find out if I know what keyboards they are.

Let's see.

You can buy USB -> ADB adaptors. Some Apple centres are still selling them. I have a stack of Extended keyboards as well - the last Mac keyboard made properly. I considered at one stage using one as my main keyboard, but I never ended up buying the adaptor.

Hmmm, that's really interesting Curra.. I'll have to scope out a price on them.
If they're under $20, I reckon it's worth picking up.

Cleaning a few of these keyboards to get them all nice and new looking would be good too

They're great keyboards - have a couple kicking around at my place too. The ones that came with later PowerPCs are a little cheapish, but look good and I can happily use one of those for hours. The best one is an Apple Extended Keyboard II, which is quite heavy and of better quality.

To use it on a WinTel box, unfortunately ADB pinouts are completely different to PS/2 devices. It isn't as simple as changing a few wires around. However an ADB --> PS/2 adaptor exists (so you can use PC keyboards and mice on your Mac), but not the other way around

ADB PS/2 adaptor here

I had one of these keyboards with my Performa.

They are heavy and very solid.
