Price check: mac mini memory
I've been quoted a price of $215 for a single 1gb memory module for an intel mac mini, which includes on the spot installation. Another recent post had someone pick up a 1gb module for a MacBook Pro for $170 so I'm thinking that my quote is slightly on the higher side (seeing that more than likely desktop ram would be cheaper than notebook ram). Thoughts?

Yep, it's an intel (core solo). Interesting about the RAM being used, thanks for the info.

if someone can open your mac min without using a hammer and chisel for $45 and install the RAM, mate you have gt a bargain on your hands.

If your Mac mini is a intel one, the ram for it is the same as it is for the Macbook pro. Macbook Pro's and Intel Mac mini both use 200 pin PC2-5300(667MHz) DDR2 SO-Dimms.
Prices vary between stores and service centres.
And opening a Mac Mini is so simple. (no need for hammer and chiesel). Just a paint scraper!
Tool, Case Opening, Mac mini (Offical Apple name of tool)
Cheers
Steve

To install rams into Intel MacMini,
If you haven't done it before, 80% chance you break the CPU fan cables. We see enough happened.
Again you will lose your warranty as warranty agreement clearly stated.

Thanks for the heads up re installing ram. Seeing that the unit is still under warranty I'll most definetly get the ram installed at a service centre.

I'd not recommend the install of the ram unless you seriously know what your doing, the intel mini's require 4 screws to be removed, and then atleast 2 cables unplugged and the airport antenna moved out of the way before you pull out the optical/hdd assy. Just to even access the ram.
And then if you dont get the blind connector back on right first go, you can even boot the machine to find you loose audio devices (like I did on the last attempt, but I tested it before putting back together).
Ideally pay that little extra and make it the place who does it take the pain and not void the warranty

Ok, so I want to jam another gig of ram into my Intel Mini, where's the best place in Sydney to get this done? It's got 1GB in there already (2 x 512MB) but that's not enough

There's only 2 slots in the Mac Mini, so you'll have to remove one or two of the chips, depending on what you want the total ram to be.

I realise that, hence me posting that it has 2 x 512MB in it already But what I'm after is the best place to get it done in Sydney... is there somewhere that will take the RAM that's in there and discount the 2x1GB sticks?
