I currently run an airport express.
but it doesnt make it easy to add wired computers to the network.
hte airport extreme basestations have the extra ethernet port.does that allow you to connect it to a hub and share the connection to wired systems ?

Yep it lets you see every wired computer that is plugged into the network switch

it Should just work all by itself... if not then tinker through the config of the AirPort Express.

If you want wired computers to play through AirTunes you have to tick a box that says make it accessable through wired LAN.

i cant do it with the AE cos i connect the modem directly to it .
ill have to replace it with an Airport Extreme Basestation

One possibility is to just use a cheap hub in between the modem and the AP express. You set the modem to do the DHCP and all network tasks and just use the AP express as a bridge to the wireless machines. I expect that's possible with the Express but you'll need to make sure it can act in such a fashion.
