Upgrading G4 Sawtooth Hard Drives

Hi All

I found this thread but it didn't answer my problem so I am asking here.

I can't get the damn original drive out. It's a 20Gb and I can hear it dying. It doesn't appear to be screwed down in any way...

Some help/suggestion on how to remove this drive?

Thanks

From memory (I upgraded my mother's sawtooth a month or two ago with a new drive) there's a single screw right at the back of the drive, not easily seen - unscrewing that lets the drive slide towards the motherboard about a centimetre, and then it lifts out.

edit - looks like I lied . this is from Apple's instructions on removing them: http://www.danamania.com/temp/hd.png

It is on the bottom of the case? You have to remove the drive tray and the hard disk is held in by four screws underneath the tray.

I couldn't find much in the way of case pictures, but here is a picture where the screws are roughly located. Once these two screws are out, you can then slide out the tray.

Under the IDE cable there is a single phillips head screw. Remove the cable, undo the screw and the drive lifts out on a metal sled. Unscrew the drive from the sled and fit the new drive to the sled. Fitting is the same as removal with the exception that you will have to slot the sled in rear first (two little tabs that anchor the back).

If you want to clarify any of the above, just ask.

cheers, kim

EDIT: I referred to the rear of the drive as the end without the connectors but it should become apparent.
