hi
my friend gave me his nano 4gb which won't mount on any computer mac/pc, and would only charge up via the usb cable! i tried all the reset etc. different cables scenarious, but still nothing.......... the other day i glimpsed at my ipod "mini" dock and thought, lets give it a go! to my amazement it mounted while docked in the mini's dock! as i placed the nano in the dock, a series of recognition beeps occured, which to my understanding it was recognised by the dock! could the connection ribbon type plug been pushed into the body of the nano, and it's not connecting properly for all the functions (charges only)? i observed the dock's ribbon type plug, and it seems longer than the one of the usb! when you guys plug in your nano's with the usb cable, do you get any recognition beeps at all? i may have to replace the connecting ribbon type socket on the nano! are they easily replaced? any ideas cheers

hi macman_99
i have tried several cables! they all work through the dock though! i feel the nano's connecting socket may be the problem........ it shows up in disk utility when connected through the dock! should i do anything there? reformat? cheers

you might want to try formatting it in disk utility, but its only worth doing if it shows up without the dock.
i can't think of anything else that may help, your friend may have broken one of the connectors inside, haven't opened a nano recently, don't remember what they look like, but it might be that.
