Imac 20" C2Duo vs Imac 20" C1Duo?
hi all,im new to macs and so i need some advices on purchasing a new imac.Im a pc user but the dual boot of the new macs have tempted me to have the best of both worlds as a design student. What i need to know is which one of these is a better value for money?
I can get the Core2Duo at student price for $2069 and the older CoreDuo for $1750.Which one is a better value for money and also which one will be better for me.I will be doing a lot of Photoshop,Illustrator,Final Cut Pro,After Effects and 3D Maya work. Also maybe some casual gaming..

The differences between the two machines: - Core 2 Duo is a bit faster (apple say 39% faster, which is an exaggeration)
- Hidden 802.11n wifi (it is currently set to 802.11g, and will probably be sped up with a firmware patch in the future)
- options for more ram and a larger HDD
I own a C1Duo 20" imac, with all the options. It is brilliantly fast - and a worthy machine of your dollars. But for $300... i think it's worth the upgrade to the newer model.

I played HL2 and AA2.7 on my girlfriends iMac 17" CD with X1600. It ran beautifully.

1440x900 and most things on medium - high. I get about 30 - 50fps on the Snakeplain map in Americas Army.
I think most things in HL2 were on high and it ran even better than AA. The iMacs are surprisingly capable.

Get the 7600 and it will do the jobs easily.
Feast your eyes on that.

I'm playing UT2K4 on my MacBook Pro with the X1600 and it runs as well seemingly at 1680x1050 on my 20" cinema display as it does on my G5 with an NVidia 6800.

If I were you, I would probably save $470 and get the Core Duo, once you bought C2D, it depreciates (a lot). There aren't many applications in 64-bit yet, and its unlikely software developers will dump 32-bit Mac owners any time soon.
