This couldn't be the first mention of it here, yet this device appears to be ramping up under various names, all round the internet, as its price appears to be dropping.
The MYVU is a pair of Star Trek styled eye-wear, used for plugging into the iPod Video, in order to supposedly see the big picture. I'm fascinated with this... thingo. Has anyone taken it for a test drive. The general claim appears to be that you plug this into your iPod 5G, and the visual experience is one akin to sitting in front of a vast cinema screen, with dolby on either side. True - only one person can view this - (unless Belkin produces another variety of Monster Splitter), yet this kind of device would - for starters - totally eradicate the need for those monstrously huge 1 ton plasma screens, into something one could fit into an ataché case, no? Has anyone seen this device... and... does anyone know of anywhere where one could take it for test drive? Cheers, cw |

You might also want to check out MYVU's competition, the 1-See from Europe. http://www.1-see.com/
As for the 'big screen' effect ... don't count on it, unless you consider 640x480 resolution to be 'big screen'. There's also the support electronics to consider -- the headpiece holds merely the twin LCDs, the optics, and the earbuds on the frame, the rest is in a bulky pack approximately twice the size of a standard iPod. Headset viewers like this aren't new, by any stretch of the imagination. Back when the IIci was state of the art technology, one project I was involved in used two pairs of CyberEyes goggles that didn't look all that different to the Myvu and 1-see system ... all the electronics lived in a separate, admittedly larger, box. It's just that personal media players seem to be the Next Big Thing, so this fifteen-year-old tech is being dug out and miniaturised. B.

Don't Mac1 stores carry these or something similar?

Don't know Devil - I haven't had one second to scratch myself during the day light hours, so I've not called any centres within Sydney... but I'd really like to get a look at one of these numbers, as I kinda like watching movies - yet the bulk of a TV (even a plasma) is a consumable that no one would really want to drag round with them.
So I'm thinking.... what's the most affordable, easy, and compact way to watch a film anytime I want, and when I saw these thing-o's cropping up all over the net, I thought - chrikey - one could carry that round in a lunch-box! Still... I certainly wouldn't wanna do an online purchase without testing a pair first. (John Lennon had a pair of specs made for him with two sets of angled mirrors in them... so he could watch TV while lying down. I'm looking for that exact experience... yet without the TV =)) cheers, cw |
