Ive had quite a few problems the last few days with my Core Duo 1GB Mac Mini. At first it kept on crashing (i.e. the grey screen which says You need to restart etc), so I put it into single usr mode and ran the disk utility. The disk had a few issues so I tried to repair/fix it but to no avail. So I erased the whole disk and reinstalled Mac OS. At first it worked ok (After reinstalling from scratch etc) but then I tried doing a Software Update and tried d/l all the latest mac updates (like upgrading to 10.4.7 etc and itunes etc). The 10.4.7 upgrade didnt work, and when I restarted it, it now has the same problems as before. Doh!!

Ive now tried this a few times (erasing, reinstalling etc) but come across the same problems where it either shows the grey restart screen, or just doesnt boot up at all.

Its only 4 months old. Has anyone else had these problems. ?? Is there any better utilities out there to diagnose disk problems ?? Or Should I just take it back (to the apple shop) and have them look at it, and if so does anyone know how long it generally takes to diagnose/repair problems ??

Thanks for any help.

Possibly a RAM issue - the grey screens with 'You need to restart' are kernel panics and one of the most common causes of KP's is dodgy RAM. From memory, dodgy RAM can also result in corruption of files, which could explain the disk issues.

Have you upgraded the RAM yourself or did it come with the 1GB?
