Since I did my OS Update the other day, I dont seem to have any digital out sound anymore. The built in sound works fine, but no digital out going to my amp. Ive just tried it in iTunes, EyeTV and DVD but no luck.

Ive tried opening up Garage Band and closing it to see if it fixes the problem, but still no luck.

I even tried removing the System Preferences.plist file but still no luck

Im sure Ive seen this problem before and Isearched the forums, but no luck.

Any ideas.

What OS Update did you do? And what Mini do you have?

hmmm... i've got the exact same setup, no probs at all for me.

When you look in the sound preference pane what's the "output" set to?

Do you get sound from the internal speaker?

Lastly when you say "Digital Out" have you tried an analogue connection? ie. Stereo RCA cable instead of a Toslink Optical 5.1 connection... or is that what you're using anyway?

Tried headphones in there?

Mine says "Line Out" not Digital Out but that's because I've got an analogue cable plugged in at the moment.

Are you getting the red beam of light coming out of your digital cable?

I'd try some headphones or an analogue cable next if your digital cable's got the light coming out the other end ok. If they dont work I'd say it could be a hardware thing and just a coincidence. You can always reinstall OS X to be sure though

I've had a similar problem but not recently, when the mini came out of sleep sometimes the optical wouldn't be working. I just logged out and back in, doesn't seem to do it any more though. Happened maybe 3-4 times.

Normally when you do have the optical connected you do not have the volume controls available in the System Prefs. Not sure if you have the same problem but hopefully there is a simple solution.

not that i know of. All other devices are working fine.

the optical does have a light coming out so I know the device is on I guess. I think somehow something has been corrupted on the mac side. Im hesitant on reinstalling the whole thing. Can you just reinstall the audio drivers somehow ??
