via Slashdot
"Apple's Showtime event was all well and good, but the big news today was on Anandtech.com. They found that the two dual-core CPUs in the Mac Pro were not only removable, but that they were able to insert two quad-core Clovertown CPUs. OS X recognized all eight cores and it worked fine. Anandtech could not release performance numbers for the new monster, but did report they were unable to max out the CPUs."

w00t?!

edit: link fixed..
edit2: NOW fixed

Another reason to buy the base Mac Pro and spec it up.

I want to see some tests in Logic Pro

I just sent that link to my Boss.

Today I gave him a quote for 5 Mac minis (10 CPUs) vs. 1 Mac Pro (4 CPUs) for price. He said "It's a no brainer, just get more Mac Pros!".

We laughed and I said more minis are fine.

What is the clock frequency of these 'clovertown' Cpu's? I know clock speed doesn't mean that much now, but I'm just curious.

8 Cores... my powermac G5 DP 1.8 is starting to look pretty pathetic indeed...
