Should it be possible to upgrade an original 20" iMac with the Core 2 Duo? Would such an upgrade be worth it?

well you can upgrade a mac mini to a Core 2 Duo, and the imac's use the same socket.. so i guess you can merom that is, not the Conroe.

Keep in mind that Merom (mobile) CPUs are considerably more expensive than Conroe (desktop) CPUs. You will also woid your warranty, of course.

I was under the impression that the Mini used a socket while the Imac was soldered to the board making it impossible to upgrade.

your thinking of the MacBook (Pro)....the mini and the iMac are both socketed.

Lots of folks are ripping aprt their Mac mini's & posting the autopsies on the web but jeez I can't see myself trying to do the same to an iMac. Just too complicated.
