Hey Guys,

I'm on the verge of getting a 20" iMac to suppliment my Powerbook G4 and I'm trying to get it with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Except it doesn't appear to have the option anymore?

Anyone know if there are any plans to reenable this option anytime soon?

You could always order them separately - from:

http://store.apple.com/133-622/WebObjects/...0.8.25.7.11.2.3

or go here: http://store.apple.com/133-622/WebOb...australiastore - and type: keyboard into the search panel.

http://www.apple.com/au/mightymouse/

Though I'm not certain, I believe the reason they removed the Built-To-Order Wireless Mose / Keyboard - was due to the inability to set it up before the two are paired, combined with the idea that the Mighty Mouse is the latest thang on its own.

cheers,

cw

they were dropped for as an option on the iMac and Mac Mini when the Wireless Mighty Mouse was released. But it is back as an option on the Mac Pro. I would say at best guess that the options will reappear in a few weeks once all the old Apple Wireless Mouse are sold out through the retailers etc...

edit - clockwork - that makes it dearer than when they are a BTO option on a new Mac and also when a mac with Bluetooth starts up and doesn't detect input devices it will automatically lauch the Bluetooth Setup Assistant and pair you BT input devices. That is how macs can be BTO with BT keyboard and Mouse.

Wow, $99 for both the wireless keyboard and Mighty Mouse as an upgrade option on the Mac Pro? Sure hope that option appears soon on the iMac!

Okay - I stand corrected as the new models have a pairing screen that appears before "Getting Started" screen appears. Still... what if one wants to eject a stuck CD by holding down the mouse on restart - or use the Tiger DVD Installer to do a customized install - or run Disk Utilities from boot Tiger DVD - or boot off Disk Warrior?

This is to say, are there not levels of operations only available to the wired counterparts - and should one order only BlueTooth keyboard / mouse, what do they do should they wish to use a Boot Disc?

Also - what happens if the user simply forgets to buy batteries and the keyboard/mouse runs out of power right in the middle of a late-night job?

You might find that once paired the imac recognises it in future anyway (at least that's how it works for me most of the time).

Well if you don't have replacement batteries that would suck big time, unless you had a wired mouse. Anyway, the imac will warn you for a considerable time that the batteries were getting low, and in which device this is the case. And when you slot in the replacement batteries, it automagically reconnects to theimac.
You can also have a wired and a wireless mouse connected at the same time (never tried this with a keyboard though).

One word of warning - bt mice and little kids do not play well together.

Well I ended up buying a 20" iMac from DJ today. I figure I'll get the wireless gear later.

Just so you know, the wireless mouse is NOT a wireless mighty mouse. So it doesnt support right clicks and doesnt have the scroll ball.

In any case I dont care for the ergonomics (or lack thereof) of the apple mice anyway, and am buying a quality logitech corded mouse.

Wrathchild,

Good for you. Logitech Mice are excellent. I haven't a single Apple mouse in my studio for the same reason. They're beautifully designed but they don't cut the mustard on practicalities.

Played with the Mighty Mouse and found I kept touching that mite sized scrolling ball accidently all the time.

Long as you get what you're most comfortable with.

cheers,

cw
