Okay - I stand corrected as the new models have a pairing screen that appears before "Getting Started" screen appears. Still... what if one wants to eject a stuck CD by holding down the mouse on restart - or use the Tiger DVD Installer to do a customized install - or run Disk Utilities from boot Tiger DVD - or boot off Disk Warrior?
This is to say, are there not levels of operations only available to the wired counterparts - and should one order only BlueTooth keyboard / mouse, what do they do should they wish to use a Boot Disc?

You might find that once paired the imac recognises it in future anyway (at least that's how it works for me most of the time).

Also - what happens if the user simply forgets to buy batteries and the keyboard/mouse runs out of power right in the middle of a late-night job?[/b]

Well if you don't have replacement batteries that would suck big time, unless you had a wired mouse. Anyway, the imac will warn you for a considerable time that the batteries were getting low, and in which device this is the case. And when you slot in the replacement batteries, it automagically reconnects to theimac.
You can also have a wired and a wireless mouse connected at the same time (never tried this with a keyboard though).
One word of warning - bt mice and little kids do not play well together.
