grrr. nextbyte just replaced the logic board in it. what do i do. i was thinking of getting sound absorbing fabric or something
when you are playing music or whatever over the top you dont notice, but when you leave it on to download overnight very frustrating

ITs still under warranty, isn't it, they should be able to fix it again.

they put a new logic board in it, but they said there was nothing wrong with it.
to me its definately louder than it originally was. when it wasn't doing anything it used to be as quiet as the ibook, but now just turning it on you audibly hear the fans.. not like the vacuum cleaner fan level, but audible all the same
have you had any issues?

I'm in a lab of them at my dads work, I think they had an older model at one stage that had its logic board replaced 3 or 4 times and occansionally the new ones fans go really loud but a restart normally fixes them.

There was another thread that I posted here at ATAU about iMac Fan Noise (G5).
Have a look at how I solved it in that thread. I think it has something to do with resetting the PMU. The processed I used was for resetting the PMU on a PowerMac G5, and the process is the same for iMac's.
It may not be resetting the PMU, but the thread is here and also at discussions.apple.com.
Cheers

Install MenuMeters so you can monitor your CPU usage. This will help troubleshoot heat/noise problems, since if your CPU is maxing out that WILL cause the heat problems that you have described.
Sometimes 3rd party software can go nuts in the background and max out your CPU. Just something to keep in mind.

My Brother inlaw, who I recently converted, had an issue with a noisy fan on his alu iMac.
I tried putting the fans into blower mode, as per instructions at Apple's site, but did not help.
Took it a Mac service centre in Hurstville (after speaking to Apple over the phone), they had it sorted in just under a week.
From memory, they replaced the fan on the bottom left (when facing the screen), I think it might be the cpu fan?
No issues since.
In this case, the fan was making a tapping sound, so might be a different issue?
