I know of an iMac G4 that has some display issues, and i'm not sure to start seriously worrying about it's life span because of it.

When you close a finder window, and go back to the desktop, it will leave behind a row of pixels from the top of the closed window.

Is the logic board on it's way out and it'll probably be dead soon?

Or is this a common fault, a RAM issue or something?

If could be hardware (very likely) but could also be a software problem. I'd be inclined to boot the system off a firewire disk with a good install on the disk you know dont have software problems and confirm it has the same issue. If so, then yes likely to be a hardware fault.

Ok, i shall try that. Also may try resetting the firmware, and also the PRAM.

Can a dodgey stick of RAM cause something like this, or is it more likely logic board imminent failure?

Anything is possible, so troubleshoot various methods to confirm fault... anything is also likely... doesn't mean its so.
