I bought a iBook g4 the other day on my educational discount for a friend (ie he gave me money, i bought it, saved him 300 bucks) what will happen when he registers it, or does a warranty claim, should i tell apple i no longer own it and have sold it to another person?

You will need to tell apple to transfer the ownership, this is free. Just call up apple.

also, after having played around on it over the past week, what should i do about removing my registration details? what would be good, is if he used it as it came from apple first. I know somehow, you can make os x reset itself and bootup with the language selection, then address details etc. does anyone know how to do this, or how apple set them up before they ship?

i think its called the welcome screen, the one with the "eple" song playing...

I know that it involves either a key sequence or a line deleted from a system file or something

As far as I know Setup Assistant will only run once. To get it back to factory condition you'll need to format the drive and reinstall OS X with the disks provided.

The simplest thing to do is, create a new user for the person who's buying it, login as that, and delete your user using "Delete immeditately". That will essentially do it, though a full Erase-Install format might be better.

well there really is no personal files on there, so yeah that would be a good option.

and for the record mighty atom, the setup assistant can be run more than once, i can't remember how, basically thogh you delete some files or some parts of files, and when you reboot...
