Does anyone know of any way to convert a hard drive from NTFS to Mac format without losing the data? Ive just pulled a hard drive out of my old PC to use in an external case with my ibook but I forgot it was formatted in NTFS untill I tried to copy some files to it. The only other option i guess is to put it back into the PC and convert it to FAT32 as I dont have enough room anwhere else to store the data while i convert it

It can't be done bergerac
Thanks to Microsoft's proprietary file system, most developers can't get their hands on the code to make such programs to let us convert file systems without destroying data.

I'd convert it back to FAT32, then from there convert it to HFS+

You can't convert it to HFS+. Simplest thing to do would be to mount the drive in OSX, as it will read NTFS and copy the data off it onto another HD then erase the drive as HFS+ and copy the data back. You'll loose any windows-based permissions though.

sorry cam :P

Partition Magic is awesome, we need something like this for Mac... how many times have I wanted to resize partitions etc.... it's one thing I'm envious the PC users have... If anyone knows of a piece of software that can do this kind of stuff on a Mac i'd love to hear about it.
