Gday

I do still plan on opening my TAM up one day to disconnect the internal CDROM which appears to be causing some major problems, but in the mean time...

If I plug my mp3 player (USB, 1 AAA cell) into my TAM (essentially a PowerMac 6500/250) using the audio in socket, will I damage the computer?

The floppy is dead, external SCSI isn't working, internal CD isnt working, doesnt have an ethernet card, USB PCI card isn't being recognised... and I only really want to use the TAM as a music machine now... The other thing would be plugging a CD player into the TAM... I do recall doing this before, but also know I buggered my LCIII's sound input by plugging a walkman into its sound in...

I'm not sure if I'm pointing you in the right direction, as I don't know the TAM at all, but it may have something to do with line level inputs. Outputs on MP3 players drive headphones, which require greater gain (volume) than line level outputs. If you plug your MP3 player into an audio in on an old Mac, make sure you turn the volume way down on the MP3 player, and use the volume control on the Mac to adjust volume. If the gain coming into the Mac (if it's a line-level input) is too high, fried sound circuits could result.

I always work by 'if in doubt, don't do it, your doubt is usually right'...

Did you find anything in the specs to help?

You've probably look through it already, but: http://apple-history.com/?page=gallery&mod...=date&order=ASC

Mmm - I've just remembered that the CD player (3 disc turnstile with cassette radio etc etc) had line out RCA jacks that I coupled and fed into the TAM...

Apple-History just says 16bit stereo in mini... Oh - I guess I should try the user manual and/or the tam.axon.net "official" website.
