i have seen 5 so far.... thats close enough to everyday. i would have to say its a very bad design. up until the isight imac they were the best design yet but since i would say its horrible. the psu doesn't have any casing and it looks like a 2 year old put it together and got excess glue everywhere..

i must say i am hugely disappointed in the design of the isight iMacs (this includes the intel one). until they do a better job then i won't be buying one

Is that yours? Ouch... I'm sorry man, that doesn't look good. Hopefully it should be a simple power board replacement.

Did you have a power surge or something? Was the computer on at the time?

Sorry, I suppose I should give the backstory. Woke up one morning and went to load Front Row, "Hrm...thought I left that on last night...meh, work in half an hour better get going". To cut a long story short, it doesn't turn on and I put it in for service.

My mate works in the service centre I dropped it in at, and he sent me that pic of it mid-service.

You never believed me when I told you that the asteroid was heading towards eart... wait.. sorry, i meant to say was "i told you.. rev A" i hate to admit to it, and i've been a victim of such incidents with other appliances/gadgetry...

hence i'll let work worry about getting a rev A, and not me

Meh - it was a powersurge of some sort, the clocks in my house were reset. I wanted an iMac that could dual boot into Windows. I'm getting a 2-day turnaround on the repair so I don't mind

this is nothing to do with rev A. like i said this is a design flaw in the isight iMacs. the intel iMac is Rev b when it comes to the new design not rev a. the processor makes no difference in theis case and that is one of the few changes.

if they put the psu in a nice little metal casing like they did on the previous ones this would be a lot less common. but previous ones i mean before the isight got added.

i can guarantee you that a different team worked on the isight imacs than the none isight ones. the difference is like the difference between a normal PC case in comparison to a g5 tower.

eeek. On a side note, the intel iMacs are a poo to pull apart: much more work than the pre-isight iMacs (G5 included). It used to be 3 phillips head screws at the base of the machine, and voilα! off came the entire back of the machine. Now there's black plactic sheet crap everywhere, more screws and torx than you can point a wahoo at, and a whole lot more work. :/
