What the hell is going on in the Apple Store, why are they charging the intel iMac's $460 to upgrade to a 500GB HDD from a 250GB HDD and charging PowerMac G5's with 250GB HDD's $450 to upgrade to the same 500 GB HDD?

I mean, the only thing I can think of, is that they chuck on an extra price cos it's more work to put it in an iMac, but seriously?

Any other price issues on the Apple Store?

$10 - as you've said, because it's more work to replace the HD in an iMac?

I dont see the drama, $10 is not that much extra in the grand scheme of a computer....

You would have to be mad to pay $400+ for a 250 to 500GB harddrive upgrade anyway.

I got a nice 300GB External Hard drive for $299, so I get 250GB + 300GB =550GB on my iMac.

But yeah, it probably cost an extra $10 because it is harder to replace the hard drive on an iMac.

Harder for the robots that put them together? I don't think so.

CTO machines are assembled by hand, I believe. They robots make the base models, and CTOs are upgraded from those base ones. At least thats my understanding. Either way, Intel iMacs are a bitch to pull apart and recombine, so that would most likely be the reason. Even if robots do it (which i strongly doubt) it would take them more time.

Is it the same HD though that's the question. If you click the "learn more" text under the Hard Drive section on the Apple Store iMac Page it says that all iMac's use standard 2.5 inch HDD's. I can't vouch for that as I don't have one but I know for certain that the Powermac G5's have 3.5 inch drives. In that case the extra $10 would be to try to get some money back as 2.5's are a lot more expensive than 3.5's.
Come to think of it I'm not even sure you can get 500mb in a 2.5 HDD. Can you? Or is the 2.5 thing on the web site a mistake?

Yeah - they are the same hard drive. Just didn't make sense when I looked at it

I also wanted to know if anyone else had found something weird like this on the store?
