hello,

I'm currently in Microsoft Windows XP on my mac mini and i've just noticed that at the back their is a red light coming from the 3.5mm headphone port.
What does that mean i have never noticed it before only now.
It's just on doesn't turn off except if i turn off the computer.
Is their a way to turn it off?
What does it mean?

Thanks

It's a problem with Bootcamp - see here or here for ways in which to turn it off.

Hey, it's a public beta, it's done so well but you can't expect it to be perfect yet.

No i just had no idea what the light was.
I've also noticed other problems as well it' doesn't like sleep!
And with the firmware update the small light on the mac mini has become slightly dim.
Anyways thanks for that.
So once again what can i do with that opticial?

What you can do with the optical out is have digital audio output from your mac.
This is good for other digital audio products such as MD or using your Mac Mini with an amplifier with an optical input and allowing your 5.1 ch.

its not really a problem with bootcamp, its normal but in windows you have the option of turning the optical off, resulting in the red light turning off.

It's common. The optical just goes down the tip. My minidisc was the same.

Funny that. I don't really notice the light on in OS X. :P

i've seen the light from the optical port on my airport express before, i thought it was normal. iv also seen the same red light coming from the male end of an 3.5mm optical cable when outputting music from my stereo

i wouldnt worry that much, i think its sposed to do that.
just let it be, its not hurting anyone!

All I could think of when reading this was this quote:

"I hate warriors, too narrow-minded. I'll tell you what I do like: a killer, a died-in-the-wood killer. Cold blooded methodical. Now a real killer when he picked up the ZF-1, would have immediately asked about the little red button on the bottom of the gun."

:P heh
