Welcome to the future. I'm just guessing that it's a transitional phase. Windows users will want to install Windows with the least effort to get a Mac (perhaps to run Visio or AutoCAD). Don't think of it as a bad thing. The more people are swayed to Mac, the more who will spread the word of OS X.
Even more fortunately, they don't remove the OS X partition (at least of what I can see) because BootCamp doesn't allow for it. The "cause" would be lost if you could delete OS X's partition.
Even so, these resellers aren't providing support for Windows and I think it would be very unwise to buy a pre-installed Windows Mac while BootCamp is still in beta. Maybe wait out until Leopard. No point using a computer solely with Windows when half the features don't work with it!

That's a whole bucket of wrong.
They could have at least put a tiger retail box in fron to of the xp box to show it boots both.

Yes, but there is the flip-side, in that people will buy a Mac just for the looks and install windows and never even give OSX another look in.
I dunno what to make of this, sure it will make it easier for Mac gaming to take off, but it doesn't feel right.

It's funny that the pictures all show boxes of XP next to Macs with screenshots of OS X...
They should have taken pictures of the XP programs locking up and not responding, and had them as the screenshots.

Love it as it is so true windows can lock up rather badly at times.

What's the issue here? Apple resellers have sold many iterations of Windows on their shelves over the years; those boxed with emulation software such as Virtual PC and Real PC. It's also no doubt cheaper to bundle Windows with the sale of Mac hardware (OEM licence).
Promoting the fact that Mac can now natively run Windows, it can only do good for Apple resellers and increasing the mac user base as a whole.

this trajectory suggests that really, in the long term, apple isn't interested in what operating system you might use. it's what you do with the OS that counts, and delivering digital content to products such as the ipod regardless of OS seems like a natural development.
ie: you can choose to interface with Mac OS or any other OS, but the content and peripherals channel will be via Apple.
a wise move if you ask me

Agreed....smart marketing. Opens up Apple hardware to a wider market and basically will capture some of the people who would have otherwise bought a windoze box (ie they would otherwise have been lost to Apple anyway). Doesn't bother me as longas they continue to cater for OSX users.

Let me introduce everybody to the real PC user. They couldnt care less about what the machine looks like. What ever case the dodgy Chinese place on the corner can get hold of is what your computer will look like Those who do care are ultra nerds and make the side of ther tower look like a rave.
PC people arnt going to buy an Expensive mac tor run Xp, they will buy a shitbox to run XP. Mac users who need both will be the only exra customers to benifit from this.

Certainly the hardcore PC users will never switch, but there's also a percentage of PC users who are frustrated with the hardware and can now look to Apple hardware as a viable alternative. It's a smart marketing move....even if only a small fraction of PC users 'changeover', it's a group of buyers Apple would otherwise never had access to. Apple hase very little to lose by doing this, but perhaps much to gain in the long run.

I know plently of people who have been interested in buying mac hardware but who haven't because they run software that will only run on windows. In fact I have a friend who has a 20inch iMac lined up for the moment bootcamp comes out of beta, the only reason he hasn't got it allready is that he needs to run ArchiCAD for work.

I have had my Intel Imac for a couple of months now, i love it sooo much! It's great for all my photo/video editing needs. Quite speedy also. But i will say that it does lock up ALOT more than my old PC. It will be half way through process and i get th BBOD and need to force quit.
For the past few weeks i have been running XP on the Imac and hasn't crash once....or did my old PC. Im not too fussed though because its an overall fantastic machine.
