Can anyone help me? I got an G4 MDD 1.25 800 FireWire. But only shows 917Mhz X2 on System profiler. Any ideas?

Is this a 'new' machine to you - and does it state 1.25Ghz on the sticker on the back of the machine? Is it running OK apart from this?
I'd try a PMU reset - hold down the PMU switch (little red one on your motherboard for TWO seconds near the PRAM battery. Things can sometimes go screwy, and this will reset the PRAM and power management settings back to default.
Also try running XBench and see if your CPU speed also comes up as 2 x 917Mhz: if so, does the machine still benchmark a score around the 2 x 1.25Ghz mark?
JB
sorry: 1.25 not 1.42

No upgrade, it is an original MDD 1.25 Dual, I tried all the normal things, reseting pram, reseting nvram, even put the cpu on another MDD 1.25 wich became a dual 917 Mhz, so the problem is with the cpu, thanks.

Is it a recent purchase?
Could be that a seller swapped out the original CPUs for slower ones?
Just a guess

Might well be true applecollector - or a resistor or something has popped off or become loose - which controls the multiplier settings.
Our very own Atomic has an article here which outlines MDD CPU overclocking - do your resistor settings correlate with the 1.25Ghz settings in this article?

No, it is not a overclocking job, it is a MDD1.25 case as well and the cpu has a label of 1.25 Ghz Dual. As for the cpu on the overclocking article is different from the two I have and tested, the one that works at 1.25 and the one working at 917. So no help in there. Thanks

Sorry if I sound dense but the last post sounded like you have a dual processor machine with one CPU running at 1.25 GHz (PLL mutliplier 7.5) and the other at 917 MHz (PLL multiplier 5.5). (167MHz bus)
As the thread sopped there. None of us are any the wiser about what happened next. (me at least anyway)
So. What did happen next?

Sorry, I have a Mac MDD Dual processors 1.25 Ghz running at 917 Mhz...
I installed the processor on another MDD 1.25 and the profiler also showed a Dual Processor running at 917 Mhz.
I am assuming that the processor has a problem.
I tried to change resistor on the actual processor to get different clock speeds but only works at 917 with resistor set at 1.25Ghz.
Do I make sense?
I think the processor came maybe from a server....
