Basically, and I know this is very newby stuff, but I recently got another mac after not owning one for some years (Powermac G5), and well I just love it. So I want to get another, and budgets being the way they are, I want to just get one for less than A$1000. I've seen a few on ebay, and it looks like I'm going to have to get something in the G4 range, but I cant decide on a emac or an imac. I personally cant tell the difference(apart from the way they look) but some things I read are against either emac or imac. Anyway, my 14 year old daughter will mostly be using it (so I can get her of mine) she just mainly surfs the web, uses Photoshop at times and designs her own (basic) websites.
Hope someone can give me a bit of info.
Thank you
John

I purchased an eMac in 2004 and it's been a delight. Would certainly suit her needs.
I'll just add that if you get the 1.25Ghz model, manufactured between May-Dec 04, some of these machines have capacitor problems, though admittedly not many here in Australia (I was one of the unlucky few).

Get an eMac 1.25Ghz like what i have.
I'm 15 and i can gurantee you that it's more then enought for photoshop and iweb.
Dont really get a 700 or 800Mhz eMac they are too slow and have a horriable graphics card!

Basically get the fastest mac you can for under 1000.
If you *really* want a TFT, an older iMac G4 will be good enough for her needs.
I'm still trodding along on a 933MHz iBook and I can do most tasks fine. My uni has 700MHz eMac's and they seem to run things fine as well. Memory is the important factor here. 512Mb is a good sweet spot.

The emac would be cheaper because of its CRT display.

Something to be said for the iMac - lower eye strain factor with the LCD, and better ergonomics.

Go the iMac, I love having the LCD, can look at it for hours no worries (CRT's kill my eyes), they use less room, weigh less (may help with postage), I still miss my G4 iMac but yeah I am little bias....
