Okay guys. Taking the new specs of the top iBook which is the following:
iBook 14" 1.33 Ghz G4
512K L2 Cache
256 MB Ram
60 GB Hard Drive
SuperDrive
Airport Extreme
~$2100 AUD ($1499 USD)
I will be running Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Fash MX for the webdesign programs. Two of them will be running simultaneously at different times (either PS and Flash, or Flash and Dreamweaver). So, I will be tricking out the iBook with Max ram which is 1.25GB. Do you think that this iBook will be able to run these programs SIMULTANEOUS (of twos) while running iChat, AIM, Safari, MSN Messenger, and some other minor programs in the background without any difficulties? Help is greatly appreciated! This is my first Mac we're talking about here and I want to be able to use it for Power, and Portability. In other words, my tricked out iBook will be as follows:
iBook 14" 1.33 Ghz G4
512K L2 Cache
1.25 GB Ram
60 GB Hard Drive
SuperDrive
Airport Extreme
Well, suggestions? Comments? Etc.?
Other than this, if it's a bad idea, I still have the plans to save up more and get a PowerBook 15inch which topped out Ram and stuff (Ram which won't come directly maxed out). Thanks!

My first thought is to suggest a Powerbook with at least a 5400rpm HD, as that'll make a lot of difference. The screens are better, there are more connection options and overall, that is what the Powerbooks are designed for.
That being said, an iBook with 1.25Gb RAM would work fine, the slowest thing again being the hard disks in them.

Yea, you're right about the hard drive speed. Would that really effect the speed the 3 main programs and the minor programs will be running in the background? I mean...4200 and 5400 is a pretty big difference, but then again, the RAM could make up for it, right? wrong? Help!?

Where did you see this new iBook? It's not up on the Apple site as far as I can see...

Lasha - i use a 1Ghz 17" powerbook. I find that this is barely enough for me running photoshop, flash and dreamweaver at once and that is with 1GB of ram. Macromedia's apps are bloated and really do slow the system down. If you can get by with only subethaedit, then i suggest you do so.
I'm dreaming of the day i can afford a desktop powermac so I can run many power apps together and finally get some work done.

what do you DO for work Disko? i never asked before...
Also, that much RAM will help lots, but for pro applications like that I would recommend a pBook over the iBook.

A bit off topic but would it be okay to stick in a 5400rpm drive into an iBook G4? would there be a noticeable improvement in speed (disk access etc)?

The drive speeds make a huge difference. So does having a crapload of RAM.

Get a P'book - minimum 15" with 5400 hdd, extra spec vi card, and of course crank up the RAM..
As they say: you only get what you pay for..

Hi guys, nice to meet you all
I've been joining this forum for 1/2 days and I saw a lot of good feeback and friendly people from this forum so nice to meet you all, I have a question I would like to ask so please kindly give me some advice
I haven't got any mac yet, and does not have any experience in mac also, but I'm thinking of getting one for running app such as photoshop, dreamweaver, etc
I have the same idea with Lasha the new ibook 14 or pbook 15"?
hm.... should I go for 15" pbook (current model) or grab the new ibook or wait till the new pbook come out?
if I grab the current one; I'm a bit afraid if there are still a lots of problem with current pbook such as battery, lcd (dead/white pixel, etc), I knew that current pbook 15" has been updated (may be, not sure) I meant "version c", is this helps or not?
I'm really confused
Thank you so much guys
Haris

The 14" iBook is a bit of a waste of time. It's the same resolution as the 12" iBook, so you see the same amount on the screen.
The 15" PowerBook is the best buy if you can afford it. 1.5GHz and a 15" screen are great. Also, if you can afford it, put a 7200RPM drive in whatever laptop you get, and you will see it have the same performance as a desktop.
The current PowerBook is pretty good quality wise. All the kinks with whitespots and batteries seem to be ironed out. But who knows if a new problem will creep up? It can happen in any product at any time.
