How fast does your Duo Core Mac boot?

When I first got my 20" iMac Duo Core, the startup time was 25 sec. After transfering all files and settings from the old computer, it now boots in 45 sec! Significantly slower...

Can anyone suggest a way to speed this up again?

My Macbook Pro has never booted as fast as others have claimed. It took about 38 seconds (on battery power) this afternoon when we timed it.

2Ghz 2Gb Ram 100Gb 5400rpm toshiba drive etc. I am getting around 3 1/2 -> 4 hours out of the battery though which is ok.

A way to speed up boot would just to put it to sleep instead of shutting it down?

How much ram have you got?

Slow start ups are normal after you put yourself on a network and add more files etc. Remember your computer has to load kernals, and usually on start up does a self test to make sure things are okay

My quad takes about 20 seconds to boot!

Third party software, such as Unsanity's widgets will slow down a boot. Login items will slow it down. Startup Items will slow it down. Anything turned on in Sharing in the System prefs will slow it down.

You'll have something in that list that's making it slower.

Edit: removed boot time showoff

You tried all the usual repair permissions and stuff. (If you didn't know already) You can find all your startup items under the "Accounts" preference pane

Cheerio,
BJ
