So I had a bit of a disaster a few weeks ago with my G5 iMac - Rev B. It was sleeping peacefully when my house lost power. When power was restored, iMac was DEAD. No response when I tried to turn it on. So I take it in to my reseller, and a couple of days later they tell me they have ordered a new power supply. It will not arrive for one week. OK then, bit pissed off, but I can live with the wait. A week later, I chase up the repair, and am told that Apple will not be getting my part in until March 24th! I think this is totally unacceptable, as I need my machine for work purposes. A week was long enough to wait, but almost 3 1/2?!? I finally got onto Apple customer relations, and after a few days of me calling them, they tell me that an "SOS" has been put out on the part and that "maybe" it will arrive in one week. The part was ordered by my reseller on the 2nd of March.

Has anyone got any suggestions on how I can speed up the process (as I would say there is only a very slim chance the part will actually arrive next week) or am I pretty much stuck with the wait?

The bad thing is, you are pretty much stuck, as it is a warranty part it has to come from Apple, if you were out of warranty, you might be able to find a second hand one, or something inbetween... Just keep on their case, the more you annoy them, the more they annoy apple etc etc.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Only got the machine in September '05. It's just annoying! Can't afford to be sitting on the phone all day at work, might have to make some strategic calls at various times of the day.

Back in the day, Apple use to keep an awesome amount of stock for warranty, as in, a repair centre would call and say I need say a hard drive for a laptop powerbook, sent same day or next day. They seem to have a smaller stock these days...
