Ok i've been posting on Whirlpool, but my thoughts...

first all http://stuff.rovingrob.com/about.mac.jpeg

- it's taking ages to get my iTunes library across. I was going with firewire, but swapped back to the lan, which is waaaay slower
- GoogleEarth runs perfectly, especially for a PPC application. Wonder how it will go as a universal binary
- Dual Core rocks
- iMovie 6's themes are cool
- FrontRow is awsome... fullscreen video rocks
- Fast user switched cubes around at 1920x1200 Not that i'll use it much, nice to do once and a while
- Dashboard finally has the ripples and when bringing dashboard up for the first time it's not super slow like it is on the G4
- iPhoto library move seemed to work fine for a drag and drop
- iTunes, see iPhoto
- Safari with Flash animations doesn't grind the system to a halt. For example, gametrailers.com used to smash the G4 hard. Now i can watch movies in HD with 0 issue
- boot time is very very fast compared to the G4 mini
- the rubber base seems to get very very hot...
- the apple boot sound is very very queit

Anyone have any questions or want me to try something ?

Plenty of there...

Thanks for they overview. Its quite clear the new Mac Minis rule over the old G4 model. Even the Intel graphics, though not fantastic, are a lot better than expected.

I'll certainly consider an Intel Mac Mini as my next Mac upgrade, wait for a 2nd or 3rd rev perhaps.

Didn't the ppc mini's only have 10/100 Lan connections on them?, that would explain why it is slower than FW,

Even so, 100baseT full duplex switched should get you about 8.5Mb/sec transfers at full speed.

Even so, isnt FW 400 supposed to give 30-50 MB/sec
I assume your 8.5 was also MB/sec

A 60GB itunes library , even at 50MBs its is still a 20minute copy job at 10MB/s its and hour and a half <ouch>

Some were 4200rpm, 5400rpm was an option. But then 2nd rev units shipped with 5400rpm silently.
