Is it possible to request your RAM in one slot? Apple's memory is notoriously expensive; you'd be better off upgrading aftermarket.
If you intend having more than one user account running at the same time, get at least a gigabyte. I only have 512MB and Fast User Switching is, well, slow.

According to the apple site when you buy a mac mini you get the ram in pairs. I think the reason is that it utilizes Dual Channel Memory for increased performance.

As people have said, you need 1gb if you want to multitask in Tiger. 512MB just doesn't really cut it when you have heaps of apps open... not to mention rosetta.

I just thought I'd add that staticIce is a very handy alternative to shopbot. I find it to be more accurate, up to date and easy to use.

My altec lansing fx6021 was delivered today. Wow! Great quality sound!!!
I have it plugged into my ipod at the moment. Wish my mac mini would hurry up so i can plug into that. Going to be great with Front Row software to control everything with a remote.

As mentioned above it does eat around double the normal amount of ram an application would use. i recommend 1Gb but 512 will be just find if your only going to use it for the net and some microsoft work and maybe a little photoshop.
