When I carefully tipped my G4 Cube forward to access the ports underneath, it shutdown. When I tried to start it up the finger touch button ontop of the Cube, the switch lights up briefly but then goes out and the Cube won't start up. Any help would be most appreciated.

Have you checked the power cord is firmly in the back of the cube and the power outlet?

it doesn't sound good. the powercable might have been slightly loose and it could have caused an issue that may have killed your logic board.. it would be interesting to look at it. if your in melbourne i am happy to have a quick look for you free of charge.

Hey, the fix for this is easy.

1. Disconnect and open up the cube.
2. Place a 25mm rubber washer (2mm thick is good) over the grey foam circle around the on/off button on the case.
3. Place the cube back in and lock.
4. Noot up and use as normal.

If it still keeps doing it and you have an external powerbutton on your keyboard or your monitor, you can place a folded piece of paper the size of a 20c piece instead of the washer. This will disable the switch and prevent it from simulating you holding down the power button (Thus turning it off)

The only other thing you may have to do is hand the back over the edge of your desk so that the cables can't push up and cause a problem.

Regards,
Reece

Cool

Reece, Thanks for your info. Unfortuneatly that didn't work. Tried both rubber and paper with the latter disabling the cube switch. Then I tried the monitor heat sensitive switch and the same thing, it lights up but won't start the cube. Can you give me the other idea??? to fix? h34r:

Jaffa, I don't think the power plug was coming out.... to cause logic board damage.

I live on the Sunshine Coast Qld. Thanks for the offer anyway Macmate.

Ok the other two things I have found that can cause this are dodgy RAM or the power-board coming loose. However, just pushing the power-board in it's slot did help mine on one occasion. Judging from what you were doing, this seems like the most likely answer. (I discovered these 3 problems with my cube and it took me yonks to work out exactly what the problem was)

If all else fails, turn on while holding down the programmer's button (next to the reset)
