G'day,

I have a recently purchased a G3 B/W as a second machine. I was wondering what is the best version of OSX for this machine?

Hardware Overview:

Machine Name: PowerMacG3series
Machine Model: PowerMac1,1
CPU Type: PowerPC 750 (82.2)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 450 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
Memory: 448 MB
Bus Speed: 100 MHz

Thanks for any advice.

I would be going OSX 10.3 - just seems to me a little faster on these older machines.

Should be able to pick it up off ebay or somewhere quite cheap

I'd say 10.3 also. It runs quite nicely on older G3's. It's also quite a bit cheaper now that Tiger has been out for a while.

Thanks - where could i try and obtain this?

I have tried ebay but they seem to want 80-100 or more (which is reasonable I suppose), however they're all auctions and I'm more of a buy it now guy.

Would retailers still have it?

I have a 400MHz B/W with 320MB RAM and it runs Tiger flawlessly So I'm going to say Tiger since I find it a lot faster on this machine than I did Panther.

I have a 350MHz B/W with 320MB RAM and it runs both X.3 Panther and X.4 Tiger. But I find X.3 runs a bit faster for daily use.

I run 10.3.9 on an old BW G3 at 350. Runs like a gem.

I went to Frequency here in Sydney.

I spoke to a guy called Jeremy who was super helpful and able to give me the 10.1 and an upgrade to 10.3 (hopefully this works!)

Thanks for all your help guys!

I have installed 10.3.9 now and it has finished patching.

It feels a fair bit snapper than 10.4.4 - thanks so much everyone!
