Q3 - I've been looking for cheap RAM for it, and found a few places where you can get 2x 1Gb DDR2 667 chips for around $290 ($145 each). This looks attractive to me, as it's $170 cheaper than buying from Apple. But the brand is Corsair. Is this a dodgy brand, or should it be just as decent as any?

No problem with Corsair, but be careful! The iMac (Intel) takes laptop RAM - that is, 200-pin SO-DIMMs. At that price you probably got a quote for the 270-pin DIMMs (which are the full-size variety) - you would need a hammer to install one of those.
In Oz, you will find the SO-DIMMS will be around the
$270-290 AUD range for 1x 1GB. If you buy online from the US, you can find them for around $190 AUD (including shipping). I've had a good experience buying from
Memory to Go or check
Deal Ram.
And no, I didn't have to pay any additional duty on the RAM (which I think remains true if you keep your total order cost [including shipping!] under $500 AUD).
