I have just tried for the first time since updating to 10.3.5 (from 10.1.5) my external formac cd burner.

However, My ibook will not read a blank disc, however it can still read all other discs (audio, installer discs etc.)

It connects via firewire, so I don’t understand the problem. I never had this on 10.1.5.

When I stick the blank disc in, it offers me the option of opening FINDER or ITUNES.

When I select the finder, within three seconds my blank disc is ejected with the following error message:

“The disc could not be used because the disc drive is not supported (error code 0x80020025)”

Is there a driver I need to download? I am unsure what to do next. Please help.

Running 10.3.5 and using a Formac CD Burner over FireWire? Sounds familiar...

After spending no less than 10 minutes moving my external HD about 30cm (long story) to give me enough room to actually use my burner, I fired up ol' Burnie, chucked in a blank CD, selected Finder, aaannnddd... nothing wrong. Works fine for me. But that error code you said is strangley familiar to me. Not sure where from, but I've seen it. The driver set, which is supported by 10.3.5, is TEAC CD-W516EB (1.0B) for me. I don't know if you have a different drive, my burner is rather old, but if it's that one I have no idea why it's not working for you.

You say that you get the error when you select Finder. Can you burn from iTunes? And do you have anything else that can burn CDs, like Toast or DiscBlaze?

For reference: I'm running an iMac 500 DVSE with external Formac Teac CD-W516EB CD burner (max burn speed 16x), burner is on firewire port 2, not daisy-chained, other device in port 1, no updates for burner, OS is 10.3.5 using latest security update.

My device (as stated now by disk utility) is Lite on in the formac enclosure.

I can't burn from itunes either. and my version of toast lite 5.02 will open for a bout 2 sec and quit without error message (in classic).

I have just downloaded a patch ( http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/action.lasso...=34103&-search) which shows up my formac in the disk utility. I've mounted a new MP3 disc, transferred my files to it. Then back to the disk utility, at which point it starts to burn. I suppose this is ok, but it is rather annoying. There are pages of info at Mac Os X hints (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...03102506540587)

Is there any other toast lite for 10.3 which is available for free?

I suppose the other option is to put a new type burner into my current enclosure. That should then work.

BTW: P996911: Do you actually drive a 996 turbo? Nice car. I wish I could drive one.

I'm not sure about Toast, but give DiscBlaze a go. Works very well for me. If all else fails go the new burner, they're so cheap now. But good luck getting the case open on the Formac enclosure, I can't!

I hope you can get it sorted out.

And nah, I don't actually drive a 996 turbo, I just REALLY one! I own 3 posters and 2 scale models of the car. I'm stuck driving a Mazda 323 - not quite as much fun... :P

I don't know which formac enclosure youve got, but mine didn't take long to open.

If it is a roundish all dark grey one with four rubber seats that wrap around to the top of the case, let me know. (I think it is trying to look like a g4)

I have already resigned myself to the fact that it doesnt work. Dual layer DVD burners for $199 at Harve Norman, so I can probably get one cheaper.

Thanks for the help !

RE: the 996, yeah mee too, I wish. I;ve got the principle going with lancer gsr. Its costing me a bucket in fuel !

That's the enclosure I've got too, on mine one of the screws just doesn't want to turn. I'm going to give it a big of a nudge tonight.

I think the new drive will suit you well. Good luck!

RE the GSR, much better than a 323 but still not a 996! :P
