I'm thinking of upgrading from my G4 tower to a new G5 iMac.

I have put 3 extra hard drives in the G4, and I was thinking of removing them and putting them in firewire cases and use them with the new iMac.

Is this an economical way to go?

Any other suggestions?

Well, it looks like it could be one of your only options.
Spectre has a setup with a few external HDs.

Thanks, Disko

BTW, Where does one get these empty cases? I suppose it is easy to transfer one of the internals to one? No need to reformat?

Depending on how big your hard-drives are, you can get a 400GB SATA drive (roughly around $600) which you can put in the iMac. You can sell all your other drives, and the one that comes out of the iMac, and that should make up for the price of the 400GB drive.
It may be a little more expensive, but it's much more convienient than multiple drives and such, just the one drive, in the iMac, with no external drives or anything.

That's true decryption. But I would keep at least one of the other drives in a firewire case for backup purposes. It's just a really useful thing to have. Much nicer than lots of CD's or DVD's floating around.
