I was installing a larger HDD on my iMac G3 DV model and noticed a VGA port on the back.

Does anyone actually use this for anything? I am assuming that it is for screen mirroring iBook style.

Cheers

You are indeed right, it is just VGA mirror, nothing amazing... I've never used it, but one of my lecturers at uni, dragged an iMac into a theatre once, and hooked it up to the projector...

Hey muzza,

Started the mac just after yours. the 400mhz....

from apple-history.com:

Announced in October 1999, The iMac DV was a major jump forward in Apple's consumer strategy. Along with all the new features added to the iMac (Slot Loading), the DV also included a DVD-ROM drive, a larger hard drive, 2 FireWire ports (a consumer first), and a VGA out.

Cheers hawker,

Sucks that the ibookscreenenhancer doesn't work with the old ATI rage128. But then again nobody even thought about dual monitors back as i remember paying close to a grand for a 17" CRT about then!

Ok I am pretty sure that I can get my hands on a iMac DV. Would it be possible to have a dual display? Could you rig the iMac that way? Would the computer need more memory for that? I have downloaded the program IbookScreenEnhancer....any ideas?

Same. But Mini VGA Mirror Only, but again can probably be hacked.

Most details can be researched at apple-history.com - bookmark it

I checked the iBookScreen enhancer hack. No compatability for ANY G3 iMac. Their ATI Rage128 video cards do not support mirroring.

Only certain eMac models are supported, based on which vid card they have.

Have a look at this; http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/supportlist_e.html
for eMac/ iBook / iMac models that can have extended desktop patches.

I have not used this but have heard good reports.
