I unfortunately left the Macintosh camp many years ago. I didn't defect to anything else, just had a transitional stage of my life.

I came back to Macintosh just last year by buying an iBook. Happy with it as much trouble as it has caused me.

But I would love to get a Cube as a desktop computer. Small PC's interest me. I own a Shuttle X PC and find it great to have maximum available power that can compete with others and be able to go to a LAN party and do one trip from the car to the room with LCD monitor and Case in hand, keyboard/mouse and iBook in my backpack. The looks I get from fancy full server towers with all these water cooling contraptions etc...

I can never find a Cube here in Aust for sale.

I look at ebay in the US and there are heaps. But I have this thing about ebay and overseas shipping. In fact, I just have this thing with ebay in general.

Yeah, i'm in desperate need for a cube.
I think everyone is.
If *anyone* wants to sell one, then i'm sure you'd probably make a fair bit of cash from the sale. (though, not if i'm the one buying it, as i have no money)

No Money? That makes the two of us.

Fulltime Student, no job, paying off a house with the savings I have. Waiting for that magic Compo check from my motorcycle accident. Its all too painfull.

I was seriously thinking of getting a Cube from the US and selling them here or something.
If, like me you were not in the IT circle for a few years and did not know of the Cube coming out, You would think that the cube never came to Australia.

There has to be someone that it doesn't appeal to anymore.

I was going to say 'check eBay', and went to have a brief browse around (searched for 'cube') and found this first up:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...0&category=2334

WTF? $18.99 for a US $1 note with a pic of Ice Cube glued onto the top?

Anyhow ... back on subject, also check your local print Trading Post. A stock will still be around the $1K mark.

I love my Cube. I bought it from Applebits in Melbourne a few years ago for about 2000, they're fantastic machines.

They come up on ebay about once a month and go for between 1000-1500 these days. Applebits probably still list them on their website but they have never had them in stock, they can however source them for you but it might take a while (took 3 weeks or so to get mine). A friend got one in the trading post about 6 weeks ago for about 1500 as well. Best bet is to bookmark a search for ebay.com.au and Cube under Apple, one will show up eventually. I decided to get mine just as upgrades were being announced and that's what swung it for me. I'm going to start saving up for an iBook in a few weeks (really really need one for work ) but as soon as I have that I'll be all over a powerlogix 1.4GHz upgrade, I was originally going to get the fanless 1.2 from Gigadesigns but they can't get the same chips any more. powerlogix have been hit and miss in the past but their 1.4 GHz uses the 7457 and runs cooler than the stock 450.

The cube is very nice - (see my gushings in other topic posts). I've seen them come up on ebay in Australia several times. More often than not there's one or two up for auction, but you do need to look quite regularly.

I'd like to upgrade the CPU in a way, but I've read so many horror stories of people killing their cubes that I'd want to be pretty sure that it was a reliable upgrade, and that it was reversable too...

I"m guessing it's just the VRM or mobo that died. Check the cubeowner.com forums, parts or sources for them often come up there.

That's also a great source if you are looking for upgrades, there are one or two that were really dodgy but most have been fine, just make sure you read up on everything before your commit to one.

I was even thinking to buy all the parts that seem to be in abundance and build my own.
