i have a imac G5 Rev A - very annoying heat problem.
when i'm running low apps there is no problems, when i use a high app it gets very very hots (as you would expect), the problem is even after i have finished using the high app and i'm just lets say using safari, the fans still remain high.
is there a application that will allow me the turn on the fans full speed. i want to do this to cool it down then turn it back on auto.
apparently if there is a kernel or unix core error the fans go full speed for safety the ensure the system is well cooled. Is there a way of artifically creating this effect? I don't want to do it through increasing CPU load since the temperature would rise and defeat the purpose.
here is the read out:
CPU: 55.0
HD: 56
CPU FAN: 2351rpm
HD FAN: 3541rpm
SYSTEM FAN: 2624rpm
now this is just running safari, no load on CPU or HD at all.
its odd since at the same temp, lets say 30minutes after i turned on the computer the fans run at just half the speed for all.
it seems that after you have the imac running for a period of time lets 3 - 4 hours the fans spin faster at the same temp then the start. whats with this? could it be the outside air temp?
