went to next byte in Melbourne today. saw the iMac G5. it looks okay i guess. actually pretty cool. but I somehow think it still could be better. its very plastic-ey. sorry but no pics. forgot to take a camera.
i also ordered an iPod mini. for $299. It was the one on the nextbtye firesale. the thing is, it only came with 30 days warranty. i didn't know and they guy there didn't tell me, or maybe i was just dumb. but i am kinda regretting it now. any advice would be awesome. i haven't owned an iPod so can someone tell me if its likely going to need repairs in 6 months or something. anyone had any experience with nextbytes firesale? is it good or is it good?
the other thing is - if i do need warranty i guess i can get applecare for the iPod. its $99. but there's an offer that i can get a free remote with it. its a mail in rebate, and ends 24th of this month. does it count as from the time i bought the apple care or does it count as the time apple receives my mail? and should i even contemplate getting applecare for the extra year?
i am kinda worried now. next time before i buy something i think i will ask before i actually buy it.
Thanks for reading
Phillip

The AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod must be bought between 17th Aug and 24th Sept. You must register your AppleCare Protection Plan and mail or fax the coupon no later than 8th Oct.
The remote control is for iPod, and Dock for iPod mini.

Just sell it on ebay if your not sure you want it anymore.
Chances are you'll almost make as much as a new one would cost. Some people on their really have no idea.

the mini hasn't been out long enough to be out of the initial warranty period - if you want the applecare to extend your warranty you need to purchase within first 12 months. yo ucan always ring apple and ask - they were pretty helpful with me since my iPod was a replacement for a 30Gb 3rd gen, and i needed a new remote. they dated the applecare 2 years forward from the day i bought the warranty - which was good deal for me since the date of purchase of the original iPod i bought off ebay was well over 14 months ago!!
congrats and enjoy the mini

the mini was only released 6th Jan 2004, so the initial warranty expires 5th Jan 2005, regardless of whether it's a refurb!

If you bought it from Nextbyte, they should have given you a receipt.
(PS: Moving this to Apple Hardware)

apple can check the serial number to see how old the mini is. I'm pretty sure the warranty is transferable. If you have any doubts just ring up apple and ask them about it. They're be able to tell you where you stand.

Whatever else they are, Nextbyte is not a two-bit hustle shop - they will definitely give you a receipt for the balance of the purchase price for the refurbished Mini, which will be the receipt you'll need for any further issues with the Mini.
I have a feeling that the warranty for refurbished stock is different, since they come back through Apple Australia - so I don't think the normal one year warranty applies - so if you do plan on keeping your Mini for a year or more, it may be wise to get the AppleCare given that they tend to play up at one stage or another.

I rang Nextbyte and they told me that I get 30 days and not the balance of the original warranty, since it comes refurbished from Apple Australia. However, I can purchase apple care.
I then rang Apple, and they told me that I should get 3 months on their refurbished stuff. If something happens in 3 months, I can take it to any apple store and get it fixed. I could also get AppleCare in the first year of the original iPod purchase whenever that was, depending on the serial number.
one question - Do I need to show the receipt to get it fixed at an apple center or do they check the serial number?
And has anyone experience iPod troubles AFTER a problem was repaired by Apple?
