Unhappy

Hey Hey,

So where, in Melbourne, can I get 3rd Party Keyboards?

I know most Apple dealers can source them, but they are not really interested.

I need a dealer that carries a range that I can actualy pick from. Having to tell them what I want is a bit of chore.

Trying to get a non-Apple USB keyboard seems to be very difficult. No one has them.

I know there are plenty out there, US websites carry loads of them.

So are there any decent suppliers of mac keyboards in VIV or Melbourne?

ta, alex.

P.S. I know I can use any old USB keyboard, but I'd like one with out a windows logo on it.
P.P.S. I dont really like the Apple white ones.

Most third party keyboards are going to have the windows logo on them. That's just the way it is, since the majority of people use Windows based PC's.

My logitech MX duo has both the windows logo and the apple logo.

Good luck finding a third party keyboard without the windows logo.

I am not familiar with Melbourne, but I would assume any PC shop would have keyboards.

I know (as much I hate the place now) Dick Smith has a large selection of them. I go there to check them out, then go to the elcheapo asian computer shop, run out of a back alley in Carlton, and get the same thing for half the price. I duno how those Asian's do it.

alexc, it sounds like you want a keyboard that is designed for Mac with the command key. If so, I was in the same boat a few months ago and found it very hard to find one. The only shops I could find that sold them are AppleCentres and even they had a very limited range, also very expensive. I ended up using a keyboard that came with an old PC.
Your best bet might be to shop online. I think streetwise.com.au has some keyboards.

Somebody made mention of the MX1000 - go for the MX900/DeNovo duo instead.

Nail polish remover worked great on my black Logitech wireless Comfort Duo.

Handy tip. Thanks :-)

I'll bear that in mind. Shame the windows key is in a slightly different position.

My Logitechฎ MX™310 Optical Mouse has been working ok.

The logitech drivers have happily assigned the top button to Expos้ All windows. :-)

Never used the keyboard ones thought. I'm not a fan of bling-bling internet keyboards.

I'll post back when I've picked one.

Thanks. alex.

I thought I'd post a mini review of a keyboard I've been testing:

I've been trying out a collegues Logitech Internet Navigator Keyboard all day.

Points against:
1. Keys feel too small
2. Palm rest is all wrong. Its not wide enough and angles and curves dont fit my hands. It feels like it gets in the way somehow. Still, it is detachable.
3. I dont know why, but I dislike the button lables. "Shopping" is my least favourite.
4. Extra lables on front of standard keys. It all feels very busy.
5. The media buttons are needlessly huge.

Points for:
1. Small scroll wheel on the left of the keyboard. For some reason I have found myself using this from time to time.

Other comments:
Key press feel is standard rubber cup style. Very average.
Driver seems to work for the extra keys. But I only gave it a quick test.

Overall:
I cant say I am impressed.
The extra buttons feel badly thought out. The way they are spread along the top of the keyboard doesnt work particularly well. The "My Com" and "My Doc" keys etc... would be usefull, they handily open key directories in the finder. But they are doubled up with the function keys. So it requires the use of the F-Lock key to change modes. The F-Lock key is placed way up left on the keyboard. This clearly isnt a keyboard designed with OSX in mind. The Function keys are used heavily by applications and Expose. These usefull shortcut keys should be seperate from the standard function keys.

This isnt a "Pro" keyboard in any way shape or form The extra 'bling bling' might tempt home users, but it wont be finding a home on my desk. Very disapointing. This really is just a Windows USB keyboard, it hasnt been designed for Macs or OSX; the lack of an Eject button on the media controls section is an obvious ommission.

Not recomended.

I'll keep looking.

Alex.
