My 8month old Imac g5 just died!
Ok, I've just taken it into apple to fix. Still under warranty.
Out of the blue, it froze completely and on restart got a flashing folder with a question mark in it.
Reboot from CD gave me no luck. Utlity just couldnt recognise the hard drive. Error came up.

Anyone got hope for me that files will be recoverable? Or is this a long shot.

Been lax in backup. My main concern is email for the last two months. The rest of the important stuff is all on Firewire drive.

But to all, this is just another reminder to BACKUP NOW!!!!!!!!!! Not tomorrow, not the next...

My most stable happy machine to date, just out of the blue, freaked out...

Hard drives in previous model G5 iMacs run at above the recommended temp from the manufacturer which of course is not good and increases the chance of failure(has been fixed in the new models)

You can probably recover your files but it will be costly. All the professional recovery places charge very high fees but if you need the data then you have no choice

Would your email still be available on your ISP's server?

yeah, email is still viewable on the server although obviously it is only the last couple of days. It deletes 24hrs after it has been downloaded off the server.

Still waiting for Apple to get back to me......

Lets see what my Apple support experience is going to be like...<_<

They said 48 hrs to get back to me. So that means a call today...on Melbourne cup day....
