Anyone here going to buy the new iMac?

Why?
What will you use it for? any power users out there who are going to buy?
What price would it need to be for you to buy it at the currently listed specs?

Just curious..
Cheers

I'm saving up for a dual 2.0 G5 powermac, but if the rumors of it having a detachable screen are true, i think that piggy bank is going to get a bit lighter

I'd be buying it.
All I want is a Mac that is practical and works. I don't do any video editing or 3D rendering, and I don't need any expandabilty. As long as I can upgrade the RAM if I need to. The combined screen and computer makes my desk clutter free.
Plus I'm pretty sure it will look nice too, in usual Apple style

I'd be looking for a 1.6GHz G5, 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Superdrive, something higher up than FX5200 or Radeon 9200 and a widescreen 17" LCD for around $1800-$2000 (edu discount).

haha. what if it comes out and looks like a complete p.o.s. :P

There'll be a lot of 2GHz powermacs in demand, i'll bet.

When it comes out, and I get to check it out in the flesh. And see how it compares with my powerbook. Then I'll decide if I want one.

But until then, my trusty PC will be my desktop machine. And it'll prolly stay as a money stealing whore for a long time afterwards. Just can't live without games.

I've spoken to someone who knows a guy who has actually seen one, and his words were "f*cking beautiful".

Granted, that person works for Apple...but I'm sure Apple will make it look fantastic.

Will I buy one? I doubt it.
I bought my PowerMac G4 DP 500MHz in Nov 2000, when slot-loading iMacs were the current model. It's still going strong to this day (after more HDDs, 1.5gb RAM, 64mb video card, 2 x 17" LCDs and a DVR-106D). In fact, I think I'll easily get another 18months out of it before I need to upgrade.

If I'd bought the iMac, I definitely would've felt the need to upgrade by now.

Cheers,
- Febs.

I thought the real deciding factor when it came to Audio Apps was hard disk speed. Part of the reason why old PPC's like the 9600 are still popular for audio work. Not to mention the investment to get if you've bought a bunch of cards for Pro Tools etc.
