Hi,

I am new to owning a G5 and am starting to get into DVDs. I have copied a DVD (to back it up) and now would like to burn it to a blank dvd. My question is do I have a dual layer dvd drive? My drive is a MATSHITADVD-R UJ-845.

Can anyone tell me if this drive is dual layer? If not does anyone have a suggestion as to how it may be done?

Thanks for your help - being a newbie I am a bit lost.

Slightly confused Skye - what kind of Mac do you have?

The superdrives on Powermac G5s are Pioneer 109s - I'll assume then that you've got an iMac G5, as they use slot-loading drives like the Powerbooks, which in turn use Matshita superdrives.

According to this report, Apple's iMac slot-loading superdrives are dual layer UJ-845s. This is confirmed by Apple's technical specifications for the iMac G5.

But then again, as I said, I'm not sure what Mac you're using.

[EDIT] Also, another general note - if you have any further newbie type questions, most of this info is easily accessible on Google, but feel free to ask here if your searches don't yield adequate (or comprehensible) results.

Buffer Under Run Protection
DVD MULTI Read/Write Support

UJ-845-B

All of the above
4x DVD+R DL )8.5GB Dual Layer)

So yes your drive is capable of burning DVD+R DL (Dual Layer)

Dual Layer simply means it can hold twice as much as a normal dvd - 9.4GB as opposed to 4.7GB

You don't need DL if it will fit onto a normal one.

Is it a movie or data or music???

PS - if you don't know whither to get - or + discs just get

DVD+R 16x

edit - sounds like you might want to get Roxio Toast 7 - www.streetwise.com.au

Hope some of that helps
