Default Icons

Okay, I'm not really someone who asks for help that often, but I've searched for hours and I can't find a solution.

I'm trying to change the icon of a *.webloc but it won't.

I've tried every icon format, re-exported, saved as and none have worked. Have also tried several different apps to do it in. The icons also won't change the icons of other things.

I tried to change it the traditional way:

http://grab.by/2ifN
http://grab.by/2ifQ

and nothing happens. Initially when I tried, it changed the icon to the default icon with "ICNS" written on it, but not the actual *.icns picture. While making the above screenshots, it refused to do that.

I tried candybar and a couple of other and there is no luck.

Any help?

  • Open both using command + I
  • Click on the icon of the .icns
  • Command + C
  • Click on the icon of the .webloc
  • Command + V

The icons should glow when clicked!

No luck. The 'icon' of the *.icns is not the picture either:

The *.icns I'm using (one of them anyway):

In that case, you should be able to use Candybar (of which there is a free trial). Import the icns, then drag it into the 'magic zone' in the bottom left.

I tried that too, and a few freeware alternatives (one of which creates the icons).

Default FastIcns Image to ICNS converter

I too had a similar problem recently and had great success with this little app -

FastIcns

Hope it works for you too.

Cheers

WTF is that?

That said, it works really well. Thanks for the help! (Now if we can figure out why… )

Yes I know it is a bit funky but as you found out it does work. Glad I could help out.
